Unscheduled power cuts irk Jammu people | | | early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 27: Despite tall promises and assurances given by the PDD minister Dr Nirmal Singh, the power scenario especially across Jammu region is worsening with each passing day. Due to increasing gap in demand and supply at peak hours, the PDD is left with no option but to go for unscheduled curtailment to get going. The unscheduled curtailment during peak hours has also made life miserable for the local residents amid humid weather conditions. In absence of any roaster the unscheduled curtailment has not only affected normal life of the people but is also impacting the business community as they have to rely on alternate sources of energy to run their shops and business establishments. The businessmen are annoyed with the style of working of the PDD in the new dispensation. The business men claim instead of penalising the big defaulters and recovering pending bills the PDD minister has failed to rope in defaulters and has bolstered the morale of the power lifters by extending amnesty scheme. Due to ever increasing power purchase bill the PDD department is not in a position to purchase extra quota of power or draw extra units from the Northern grid to plug the gaps. Ahead of the start of festive season the PDD is under pressure from local residents to ensure uninterrupted supply but hands of its officers are tied in the wake of curtailed power budge |
