Forest mafia hits government below the belt | Bali Bhagat issues directions, 400 kanals retrieved | | A B Sharma Early Times Report Sunderbani, Sept 20: On specific instructions from the Minister for Forests and Social Welfare, Bali Bhagat, forest department today acted in prompt response and got nearly 400 kanals of forst land illegally occupied by the encroachers freed. Early Times had carried a story only yesterday under the caption: Forest mafia hits government below the belt that the government swung into action and freed the forest land. A ten member team following the the direction issued by the Forest minister Bali Bhagat and under the supervision of District Forest Officer A D Singh was deputed which was led by Forest range Officer Vinod Kumar Sharma that reached the village Nala Makol in Sunderbani district and took the cognizance of the matter. Immediately 400 kanals of the land under the illegal posseion of Shankar Das, Radhey Sham , Om Prakash, Dev Raj, Nek Ram, Madan Lal and Hukum Singh was freed and the fencing done by them was broken on the spot. The Forest Range officer Vinod Kumar Sharma immediately passed on a rider to the culprits warning them with a stringent action of criminal proceedings against them if the land was encroached or tempered by them. Sunderbani, Sept 20: First and final notice from forest department was served to all the encroachers with severe warning of lodging an FIR against them in case of second default by them. Meanwhile the District Forest Officer A D Singh has expressed his gratitude to early Times for timely sounding of the criminal activity going on in his area regarding illicit land grabbing by the forest mafia and assured that he will take up all matters of such encroachments and see that the area is made encroachers free. " I am thankful to Early Times for its timely and ethical reporting on the forest mafia working in the area. I would appreciate such efforts by the media if more such encroachments are brought in my knowledge so that prompt acation could be taken against the culprits," said DFO A D Singh. Early times in its report yesterday had said tehsil Sunderbani in the villages Nala Makol and Nohoti, is influenced by some of the hardcore land grabbers who have hundreds of kanals of land in their possession where they have put up even the fencing under the very nose of the administration. To cite a living example of one Shankar Dass of Nohoti, the notorious land grabber had 60 kanals of the illegal forest land under his possession which was patronized by some ministers, influential bureaucrats who were equal shareholders in the booty. Many reminders of this illegal business being going on were sent to the earlier district forest officer, who put up a deaf ear to the pleas of the villages. The villagers' of the area had informed that the encroachers had grabbed the land in connivance with the forest officials and guards on duty who were also shareholders in the loot. Minister for Forests and Social Welfare, Bali Bhagat on July 25 had said that everyone is equal before law irrespective of caste, creed, region, religion or any other basis and serving of notice by the Forest Department to a former minister is a testimony to this fact that action against encroachers would continue. |
