RSS directive to BJP: Harden your stand on beef controversy | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 20: Amidst speculations of mass cow slaughtering on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha in Kashmir Valley, the Rashtriya Swayam Seveak Sangh is learnt to have directed the ruling coalition partner Bhartiya Janta Party to harden its stand over the issue of beef ban in Jammu and Kashmir. The fresh direction from the RSS high command is likely to create trouble for the six and half month old PDP-BJP coalition Government in the State where the contentious issue of beef ban has snowballed into a major controversy since the High Court directive for strict implementation of the law in this regard. According to sources, the RSS instructions were issued to the Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, who has so far maintained a silence over the issue even as the BJP has made its stand clear through statements only for implementation of Beef ban law. The ruling coalition partner BJP has been clearly told to ensure strict enforcement of law for avoiding mass slaughtering of cows in Kashmir Valley on September 25-26 by persuading the Chief Minister to either impose curfew like restrictions on these two particular days or taking sensible Kashmiris into confidence, sources explained. Sources said that the RSS has also asked sister organizations of BJP to launch a vigorous campaign for mustering active support over the issue of beef ban and judge the undercurrent among common Hindus vis-à-vis provoking incidents of cow slaughtering in Kashmir Valley. These directions were issued to the BJP and its sister organizations after series of marathon meetings by the top RSS functionaries for three days, during which a comprehensive feed back was obtained from different quarters of civil society in Jammu. Even as the RSS high command is in no mood to flare up this `unwanted' controversy, which can lead to collapse of the PDP-BJP coalition Government, sources insisted that the organization does not want to signal that the saffron brigade was adopting a soft approach on the issue, which is highly sensitive for the Hindus across the country, sources explained. |
