| Jammu rejects PDP-BJP agenda of alliance | | Abandoning nationalists, bartering national interest | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sep 20: The assembly of legal fraternity, civil society leaders and opinion-makers on Sunday unanimously adopted a resolution asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi to withdraw it forthwith to allay the fears of the nationalist people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. The resolution was adopted after a threadbare discussion on the agenda of alliance during the seminar organized by Jammu Lawyers Forum.
The resolution read: "Having unflinching faith in the integrity of the nation and liberal values, being fully aware of the challenges to the national interests posed by communal separatist forces aided and abetted by Pakistan, knowing very well that nationalist people in all regions of the state have been subjected to attrition and harassment, even exile, and after due deliberations, thorough analysis and assessment of the PDP-BJP Agenda of Alliance forming the basis of the coalition government in the state, this Assembly of Legal Fraternity, the Civil Society Leaders and Opinion Makers reject outright the contents of the Agenda of Alliance and ask the Prime Minister of India to withdraw it forthwith to allay the fears and apprehensions of the people of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. This Assembly is convinced that Agenda of Alliance is a deliberate attempt to negate the very idea of millennium old liberal and all inclusive Indian tradition and, hence, a disruptive document". The contents of the resolution speak for themselves, as each and every word it contains is self-explanatory and indicates the people's concerns.
Earlier, Speaker after speaker criticized the agenda of alliance. Former Bar President and senior Advocate B S Salathia, Chairman of Jammu Lawyers' Forum, who presided over the serious deliberations, expressed concern specifically about the manifest and written communal overtones of Agenda of Alliance. "After reading the document of Agenda of alliance I am seriously worried about an attempt to fracture secular processes in the state and usher in an era of further radicalization of the entire state, particularly Jammu Province," Salathia said and further added that the agenda of alliance has deprived the people of Jammu region of their right to have due representation in the Legislative Assembly, as the 2002 Amendment to the Representation of People's Act clearly says that there could be delimitation of assembly constituencies only after the 2031 census and that too if the government of the time would be willing to withdraw the anti-democratic amendment.
"We cannot allow this and cannot close our eyes to this. Undertaking about the future delimitation in the state is in fact the endorsement of the sinister freeze of delimitations till 2040, not 2026. The agenda of Alliance is a fraud committed on the people of Jammu province by the BJP that sought mandate from Jammu on Jammu-specific planks," he said. He further added that the written references about the internally displaced Hindus of Kashmir are more brazen and naked in intention. PDP-BJP is seeking to integrate exiled Hindus of Kashmir with the existing Kashmir social milieu there so that they are eventually absorbed into it. We all know what Kashmiri social milieu means. The West Pakistan Refugees and refugees from POJK have also formally abandoned by BJP while sealing their alliance with PDP for power." B S Salathia sought immediate withdrawal of the sinister Agenda of Alliance, which, he said, has all the potential of undoing all that the nation did for integrating the state since independence.
Prof Hari Om, senior BJP leader and prominent opinion maker in Jammu, said that Agenda of Alliance has crossed all constitutional limits and virtually declared Jammu and Kashmir not part of India. "The very fact that the Agenda of Alliance has empowered the state government to facilitate a dialogue between India and Pakistan and between India and the separatists is clearly tantamount to conferring plenipotentiary powers on the state. PDP-BJP are almost visualizing J&K as a sovereign entity", he said and endorsed the suggestion of B S Salathia that Agenda of Alliance be withdrawn forthwith to allay the fears of the very vast nationalist constituency in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the Agenda of alliance has formally delegitimized the region of Jammu and divided it into Chenab Valley Region, Pir Panjal region and the plains of Jammu". What can be a better support to the creation of Greater Muslim Kashmir than visualizing breaking up of a secular Jammu into compartments which are communal ?", he asked.
Senior Advocate S S Lehar said in his presentation that the Agenda of alliance hampers the process of integration of the state with India and as such must be a music to the ears of separatists in Kashmir and Pakistan. It basically provides a locus standi to the separatism. "What national reconciliation can take place between the nationalists and the forces which want to destroy the very idea of India? Separatism in Kashmir is an ideological movement launched to help Pakistan finish what it calls the unfinished agenda of Partition. Can there be any reconciliation between the forces of sedition and nationalism? Can there be any reconciliation between forces of secularism and communalism? It is ironical that that BJP has become a willing partner in this break India game." He asserted.
Advocate M M Baru emphasized that in addition to whatever has been said so far by the learned speakers there are many more sinister commitments which the PDP-BJP Agenda of Alliance makes. AOA seeks review of AFPSA, denotify the disturbed areas and take back from the Army the land it has been using to check the Pakistani activities and secure the sovereign interests of India." Sovereign State means land, population, government and Army. If a political understanding for power sharing willfully undermines and attacks all these critical planks of sovereignty then we all are in danger. The nation is in danger and that is what eventually the implication of Agenda of alliance is," he explained.
Panun Kashmir leader Dr Ajay Chrungoo said the Agenda of alliance is an attack on the sovereignty of India, secular integrity of the regions and license for further proselytisation in the state. It is an expression that Musharraf plan has not died but is continuing. He further explained, "Hindus of Kashmir have been the frontal target of the Agenda of Alliance because the agenda seeks a reconciliation with communalism and separatism. Through Agenda of Alliance a formal commitment has been given to the communal forces operating in Kashmir valley that Kashmiri Hindu concerns will not be allowed to come in between a settlement with Pakistan, separatist forces in the state and the Government of India. The agenda seeks reintegration and absorption of Hindus of Kashmir in the social milieu of Kashmir. The Kashmiri Hindus will now be reintegrated with the same forces that pushed them out and subjected them to genocide. BJP-RSS in pursuit of their perverted strategic vision have chosen to close their eyes to the fact that existing Kashmiri social milieu is a communal Jihadi milieu. Agreeing to send them back for reintegration and absorption into this milieu simply means agreeing to their conversion. Is BJP offering Hindus of Kashmir as bait to be in power in the state?" Dr Ajay also commended Jammu Lawyers' Forum for making the Agenda of Alliance a central issue of concern in the present disturbing environment. "We salute the people of Jammu region for their spirit of accommodation and perseverance in the light of a war like situation being imposed on them. Agenda of alliance has to be thrown out lock, stock and barrel as it is the negation of everything which we hold dear. Agenda of alliance is a critical cog in the anti-national enterprise," he concluded.
He appealed to the gathering to realize the grim reality that a Communal Apartheid has been in place in the state since its accession to India and this apartheid has to be dismantled by a collective struggle.
Advocate Vilakshan Singh charged the BJP with fooling the people of Jammu province by claiming that Jammu also got an AIIMS and called the BJP bluff by quoting from the Health Ministry's reply to his RIT which said only one AIIMS was sanctioned to Jammu and Kashmir. Advocate Ajatshatru Sharma from Kathua denounced the BJP and said that it betrayed the people of Jammu province by adopting a sinister agenda of alliance.
President Young Lawyers Association Daljit Singh Manhas rejected the Agenda of Alliance terming it as highly dangerous for Jammu and the country.
President All Passenger Transport Welfare Association, Devinder Choudhary also spoke on the occasion and urged the organizers of the seminar to educate public opinion throughout Jammu province about the implications of the Agenda of Alliance.
Almost all speakers, including Advocates Chander Mohan Sharma, Sr Advocate, P S Dutta, Z A Qazmi, made direct and indirect references to the unilateral ideological concessions offered by BJP to PDP for accepting them as alliance partners. They said that BJP for its entire political history tried to convince the people of India about the negative implications of Article 370 and when it received a massive mandate in Jammu it abandoned this plank and assured the PDP that it will do nothing to disturb the status of Article 370.
Advocate Ravinder Sharma while conducting the proceedings of the Seminar, reflected on the importance of the theme of the seminar and presented vote of thanks.
What the speakers said about the agenda of alliance was based on facts and it must make the BJP realize that it did make a serious mistake by violate the Jammu's mandate and recognizing Pakistan and Kashmiri separatists as stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir. The conclusion of the seminar was that the present BJP-led NDA Government, like the Vajpayee's and Manmohan Singh's governments, has compromised the Indian stand on Jammu and Kashmir and seeking to withdraw from the state to allow Pakistan and separatists and communalists in the Valley to achieve their sinister goal of disintegrating India and eliminating those who had been fighting the national cause in the state, especially Jammu region and Ladakh and that Jammu people will not allow New Delhi to barter the national interest as well as the interests of those who constitute the backbone of the nation in Jammu and Kashmir. |
