Climbers' 21-day coaching camp gets underway | | | JAMMU, Oct 18 : The 21 days coaching camp for J&K climbers selected in the North Zone team for the forthcoming National Climbing Competition started at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in Sprawling Buds School campus, Bantalab here today. Sports Officer (Jammu) of the J&K State Sports Council, Rajan Sharma inaugurated the camp. To be held in two phases, the 11 days (first phase) camp at Jammu being organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K shall continue up to October 28. "In order to prepare the team to its full potential by exposing it to the international standard climbing infrastructure at Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) New Delhi the Association has planned to conduct the 21 days camp in two phases," said general secretary of the Association, Ram Khajuria. Whereas the first coaching camp of 11 days duration is being conducted under the supervision of two national coaches at Sprawling Buds School, Jammu, the second such camp for the remaining 10 days shall be organized at IMF at the international standard 50ft high lead climbing wall and Speed climbing wall with star holds and an international standard bouldering gym from November 16, immediately prior to the National Competition, he maintained. The National competition is scheduled to be held at the same venue from November 27 to November 30. Worthwhile to mention here that J&K do not have the standard climbing infrastructure to hold national championships. |
