Identifies 30 kanal land near Rangreth Airport, asks architect to prepare design | Mantri wants bungalow in 'no construction zone' | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 18: A powerful Minister in the ruling PDP-BJP coalition is all set to take over nearly 30 kanal of land near old airport in city outskirts here to build a new house for himself, sources told Early Times. They said the piece of land identified by the Minister falls in "no construction zone" as it's very close to the Rangerth airport. Even the Airport Authority of India has earmarked it as "No Construction Zone." Sources said a few days ago the Minister visited the site along with the Revenue officials and asked them to demarcate the land identified by him. "The officials promptly followed the instructions and marked the boundaries of the land identified by the Minister." Sources said that Defence Ministry has already acquired most of the land around airport. "Even the villagers whom the land belonged to have been given adequate compensation," they added. Insiders revealed the 30-kanal land which Minister is eyeing falls in no-man's land. "Its Government property that's why no one has come forward to claim the compensation for the said piece of land," they added. Sources claimed the piece of land falls in the high security zone and Minister has expressed his desire to construct his new bungalow there. "He (Minister) can acquire the piece of land by getting it allotted in his favour by executing a simple lease deed for 99 years. No one can stop him from building a house there as powerful people can get away with all these things easily," the source added. An official of the Revenue department while talking to Early Times confirmed that land has been demarcated but he claimed that Defence Ministry has not paid the compensation for the piece of land. "If Airport Authorities of India wants that no construction should take place in the area then it should pay for it. We can't give them the land free of cost," he added. Asked about Minister planning to build a new house there, the official said, "I don't know about it. We were asked to demarcate the land we've done it." Sources said the piece of land identified by the Minister is in a posh colony and many houses which have come up in the area have violated the norms of Airport Authority of India (AAI). "The AAI had given clear instructions to the denizens that only two storied houses should be built in the area. Unfortunately those norms have been thrown to winds and huge palatial houses have come up there," sources added. They said the Minister who had asked Revenue officials to demarcate the land has told them (officials) not to worry about the AAI and he would take care. "Even an architect has been asked to prepare a design and come up with a proper landscape," revealed an insider. He said the Minister has made up his mind and it would be difficult for anyone to make him change his decision. "It remains to be seen how Defence Ministry would react and what steps it would take to keep the area around old airport safe," the source added. |
