The ailing majestic art tomb, Abhinav Theatre - a succor for the art performers of the region is likely to stand up again in coming November sending a joy of hope and anticipation to all art lovers. Abhinav Theatre Jammu would be thrown open for general public, artists, writers and theatre activists in the first week of November. This was informed by minister of state for education, information and culture Priya Sethi who recently chaired a high-level meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages to take the stock of situation. Taking note of the delay in the works, Priya Sethi said, "Fresh deadline has been fixed for 31st of October and in the first week of the November the Abhinav Theatre will be handed over to the general public, artists, writers and theatre activists in particular. Theatre has been centre of attraction for art connoisseurs and very soon the renovated complex would again abuzz with art activities" She added that cultural activities held on regular basis and the renovated theatre would again become centre of attraction in the city. Opening of Abhinav Theatre in November has given a fresh lease of life to the performing artists of Jammu who are rehearsing for the upcoming theatre festival, which is also scheduled to be conducted in mid-November. " There is all possibility that the drama festival would be held in Abhinav theatre. The dates of the performance of the plays is scheduled for mid November and it would be conducted in renewed Abhinav Theatre ," said Arvinder Singh Amn, additional secretary JKAACL while talking to Early Times. He said since every detail of the renewal of the hall has been taken care of, the Academy itself is quite hopeful of conducting the art competition in its hall only. Priya Sethi had recently inspected the ongoing repair and renovation work at Abhinav Theatre Jammu and Tagore Hall Srinagar. At Srinagar, she also announced the opening of Tagore Hall in a week's time. The theatrical activities in Abhinav theatre came to standstill in 2010 when it was decided by JKAACL to renovate the theatre , leaving the culturists, artists, dramatists and the social activists in the lurch. Occurrence of leakage in the roof of the Theatre in the year 2011 proved to be the obstacle for holding activities in it during the rainy and inclement weather conditions, which forced for its renovation, and the Theatre was officially closed on April 1, 2012. |
