Udhampur, Oct 18: Five persons involved in the October 9 petrol bomb attack on a truck on the national highway at Udhampur, which had resulted in burn injuries to two persons, have been booked under Public Safety Act (PSA). Meanwhile, with one of the victims succumbing to his injuries today, section 302 was likely to be invoked. A total of nine persons have been arrested in the case with police apprehending two more persons today. According to police sources, district police submitted a dossier of 5 persons involved in the truck attack and having a criminal history. They have been booked for planning and executing a criminal conspiracy aimed at disturbing peace and public order in the state under a pre-designed and motivated plan. The Udhampur district magistrate, after examining the dossiers and involvement of accused in a series of criminal acts including the deadly attack with combustible material on the truck, issued warrants for detention of the accused under PSA and lodging them in the central jail. However, after police received reports about the death of Zahid Ahmed, son of Ghulam Rasool of Anantnag, the case would now be investigated and tried under section 302 for murder, sources said, adding that Zahid was wounded in the truck attack. Those booked under PSA include Sandoor Singh, son of Thakur Singh of Dheda, Gool, Danish alias Pamma, son of Khushia of Ward No 12, Dewak, Udhampur, Harish Singh Katoch, son of Chuni Lal Katoch of Bhimdassa, Gool, Balbahadur Singh alias Abbu, son of Girdhari Lal of Moungri, and Varinder Singh alias Kaka of Sambal, Udhampur. Kaka originally hails from Nepal. Four other accused who are arrested are: Jasbir Singh (27), son of Baldev Singh of Laddan Power House, Udhampur, Rahul Sharma (22), son of Purshotam of Sambal, Suneet Singh (16), son of Pradeep Singh of Sambal, and Rameshwar Singh alias Gushu (35), son of Karan Singh of Sambal. They were booked under sections 307, 336, 436, 147, 148, 120-B and 427 of RPC and 3/5 of Explosives Substances Act. Further investigation in the matter was conducted which also revealed that apart from the instant criminal conspiracy aimed at disturbing peace and order in state they were involved in a series of criminal assaults and acts and a number of FIRs lodged while many cases had been challaned. A case under sections 342, 323 and 147 of RPC stands registered against them at Udhampur police station. Other cases under sections 337, 336 and 147 of RPC, 4/5 of Arms Act, 342, 323 and 147 of RPC, 341, 323 and 34 of RPC, 341, 323 and 34 RPC also stands registered against them at Udhampur police station, sources informed. |
