Peace in India in peril owing to intolerance | | | Chief Minister, Mufti Mohd. Sayeed, says that gun is no solution to any problem. President Pranab Mukherjee calls for tolerance after he was moved by several incidents which simply symbolized growing intolerance in the country. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has called for debate for settling various ticklish issues instead of inciting people to violence. And during the last about one year one issue, kicked up by a section of extremists, or the other, triggered by another section of fundamentalists have derailed peace and created a lot of bad blood after the exchange of vituperatives was responsible for the killing of several people. At times rumours proved as deadly as long range guns. Rumours had resulted in the killing of Mohd. Ikhlaq in UP's Dadri area. Rumours had ended the life of Zahid when his truck was hit by a petrol bombs. Ban on beef, demand revocation of ban on beef and slaughter of bovine animals, Ghar Vaapsi and many such issue which have provoked people to indulge in one act of violence or the other. Whether in the name of religion or in the name of nationalism or in the name of fundamentalism there has been murders, killings. Punjab state has been almost on fire after groups of people resorted to violence while protesting against the desecration of the Granth Sahib. Those millions of people who have faith in the holy scripture were incited because the desecration had hurt their feelings. The followers of holy Granth Sahib were provoked as much as section of people felt insulted and humiliated when some political leaders hosted beef parties and others demanded revocation of beef ban order. What has been interesting that groups of Sikhs in Jammu and Kashmir staged demonstrations against the alleged desecration of Granth Sahib. These groups of Sikhs in Jammu and Kashmir were supposed to lose their calm as their brethren in Punjab did. Curfew restrictions were imposed in various areas in Punjab where the Army and the paramilitary forces were forced to carry out a flag march for restoring order and peace. Well it has been a sorry tale after the police in Punjab found foreign hand in triggering violence in Punjab. The Punjab Police on Wednesday said they had evidence to suggest international conspiracy behind the sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib at Faridkot's Bargari village on October 12. This comes on a day when the Centre deployed 10 Border Security Force companies, comprising 1,000 personnel, at Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Tarn Taran. The police claimed they arrested two brothers, Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh of Panjgarayin village in Fardikot, for their alleged involvement in the Bargari incident. The two were allegedly getting instructions and funding from handlers in Australia and Dubai (UAE). The police claimed they had phone transcripts to support the claim. In the context of the development in Punjab it has become mandatory for all the security and intelligence agencies to galvanise their field sources to identify agencies and elements that may have been responsible for triggering violence or for inciting people to indulge in acts of violence. If the police in Punjab claim that the recent incident of sacrilege of the holy Book has found support from some international actors why should not the central Government and other agencies identify other agencies, at the national or the International level, who could have been responsible for inciting people to indulge in acts of violence. It is necessary because peace in India is in peril. If those who are responsible for inciting people to indulge in act s of violence are not detained and severe action taken against them peace may be endangered but worse than this Indi could be a home for anarchy. |
