Udhampur, Oct 22: Police Thursday said that the ‘Udhampur Truck Attack’ that claimed the life of an innocent Kashmiri youth was the brain child of a Nepali criminal while during the investigation it has come to fore that a tainted police constable played the role of a conspirator who not only helped the goons but also played a major part in setting the Kashmiri truck on fire at Shivnagar Udhampur on October 9 this month.
Surinder Gupta, Deputy Inspector General, Udhampur-Reasi range said that only one accused namely Amit Kumar is absconding while rest of the accused including the master mind of the attack have been booked and charged with murder. “During the investigation it came to fore that a Nepali criminal Varinder Singh alias Kaka who currently lives at Sambal Udhampur was the master mind of the Udhampur truck attack. All the accused during the interrogation confessed that it was a planned attack carried out at the behest of Varinder Singh alias Kaka. Kaka runs a ‘Maya Gang’ in the district which resorts to extortion, arson, rape and murder. Soon after the arrest of Kaka we have launched a manhunt to expose and arrest the rest of the members affiliated with this gang,” Gupta said.
He said that almost all the accused confessed and confirmed the role of police constable Jasbir Singh, son of Baldev Singh, resident of Laddan Power House, Udhampur in the attack. “Jasbir proved to be a black-sheep in the Police Institution. Investigations revealed that this cop was the main conspirator and played a key role in attacking the Kashmiri truckers. He is in lock up and placed under suspension,” DIG Surrinder Gupta said.
“We have sufficient evidence, including CCTV footages, against the accused. Their previous crime history has also been put on record and accordingly the Public Safety Act (PSA) has been slapped against all nine arrested so far. One accused Amit Kumar is still evading his arrest. Once this absconding accused will be apprehended, more arrests may follow,” he said.
Pertinently, the accused have been booked under Sections 302, 336, 436, 147, 148, 120-B and 427 of the RPC and 3/5 of the Explosives Substances Act.
Those booked under Public Safety Act for Udhampur attack include Sandoor Singh, son of Thakur Singh, resident of Dheda, tehsil Gool, Danish alias Pammal son of Khushia, resident of Dewak, Udhampur, Harish Singh Katoch, son of Chuni Lal Katoch, resident of Village Bhimdassa, tehsil Gool, district Ramban, Balbahadur Singh alias Abbu, s/o Girdhari Lal resident Moungri, tehsil Moungri and Varinder Singh alias Kaka, resident of Nepal, A/P Sambal, A/P Shiv Nagar, District Udhampur, Jasbir Singh, son of Baldev Singh, resident of Laddan Power House, Udhampur, Rahul Sharma, son of Purshottam, resident of Sambal, Udhampur, Suneet Singh, son of Pardeep Singh, resident of Sambhal, Udhampur and Rameshwar Singh alias Gushu, son of Karan Singh, resident of Sambal, Udhampur. |
