SHO attached, 2 cops transferred for "shielding" murder accused | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 22: Acting tough over the allegations of corruption against them, police headquarters (PHQ) has taken action against the SHO of a police station in Jammu district and his two juniors, both cops. While the SHO was attached with the district police lines (DPL), the cops were transferred to another district. The SHO, who was alleged to have shielded a murder accused at the instance of a Minister, had allegedly taken a hefty amount from the accused. When police took no action against the accused for some days after the incident, the victim's family members and their relatives held a demonstration, following which higher police officers took cognizance of the matter. Police sources alleged that during a secret probe, the higher officers found that the SHO and the two cops had taken a huge money from the accused to shield him. While the two cops were forthwith shifted to some other district, the SHO was attached with the DPL yesterday. A new SHO had been posted at the police station in his place, sources informed. Sources said within two days of the protest by the victim's family, a murder case was registered. The accused too was alleged to have confessed to his involvement in the case, the sources added. |
