Naib Sarpanch affiliated with NC booked under 307 RPC 10/23/2015 12:12:55 AM Early Times Report Mendhar, Oct 22: A Naib Sarpanch (village head) affiliated with National Conference (NC) today was booked u/s 307 RPC (attempt to murder) by police after he assaulted a contractor seeking payment of his work in Mendhar area of Poonch district. The police have launched manhunt as the accused has been absconding to evade his arrest. According to reports, the National Conference (NC) Youth block president along with Naib Sarpanch of Harmutta in Gursai-Mendhar Sarafarz Chowdhary got MGNREGA work for Rs 50, 000 to a contractor namely Haji Muhammad Azam of the same area . Reports said that the Naib Sarpanch had created some hurdles in the issuance of payment to the contractor. "He allegedly had taken Rs 15000/- from the contractor so as to get his payment released from Panchayat Commissioner Haq Nawaz. Reports alleged that said commissioner too was hand in glove with the Naib Sarpanch. "The NC leader and Panchyat representative reportedly had sought Rs 5000/- more from the contractor for the release of his payment and the latter paid the said amount as well," sources said. They said, "However the Naib Sarpanch was in no mood to get the payment released and today when he was with another NC cadre namely Baji Farooq summoned the contractor to party's office in Mendhar Town. "As the contractor went to the NC office today, the Naib Sarpanch hit his head with a chair leaving him critically injured, sources said, adding, "the injured was immediately rushed to Sub District Hospital (SDH) Mendhar and got 18 stitches on his head for his injuries." Meanwhile, the family members and relatives of the contractor staged massive protests against the Naib Sarpanch and demanded his immediate arrest. Subsequently, police registered a case under FIR number 139 under sections 307 and 323 RPC. The accused however is absconding.
