Couple brutally murdered in front of their children in Kathua | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Oct 22: In a shocking incident a couple was allegedly murdered in front of minor children by a group of persons in Lakhanpur of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile Police have registered a case and started investigations. Police have identified the deceased as Inderjeet Singh (67) and Bholi Devi (32) who was his third wife as his first two wives had died in the past and the duo had got married recently few months ago. Police sources added that the deceased was an ex-employee of MES and reportedly had a lot of property in neighbouring Punjab. "He had two children each from first two wives while a daughter from his first marriage was married in Delhi and the son presently had settled in Sujanpur, police sources said. They said that the two children both minor namely as Roop (9) and Indu (7) from Inderjeet's second wife were reportedly present at the time of crime. "During the initial investigations, Police sources said, "it came to fore that three-four masked men knocked at the doors of Inderjeet aftermidnight." "As he responded, they attacked him with sharp edged weapons killing him on the spot, they said. They barged into the house and attacked Bholi Devi too. 'The children, however, escaped attention of the assailants as they hid themselves in an adjoining room. The attacker managed to flee from the spot unnoticed as the house was built at a deserted place away from the village, police sources added. Meanwhile sources said that police came to know about the murders only on Thursday morning when children came to the village and narrated the entire episode. The village Sarpanch Ramesh Singh informed the police who took the bodies to hospital for postmortem. When contacted Sr Superintendent of Police Kathua Neeva jain (IPS) said, "A man identified as Inderjeet (60+) hailing from Sujanpur, Punjab and his third wife (30) were allegedly murdered in a village in Basantpur of Lakhanpur. "This is not a 'blind murder' and police shall soon solve this double murder, she said and added that some of the suspects have been rounded up while the matter is being investigated. |
