Police suffer Rs 12 cr loss in floods | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 22: The J&K police have suffered a loss of over Rs 12.28 cr in the September 2014 Kashmir floods. In the deluge, over 300 vehicles of the department suffered damages. Police sources said the department suffered a damage of over Rs 12.28 cr in the September 2014 floods as its over 300 vehicles, small and big, were damaged badly. "The home department has now initiated the process of putting all these vehicles on auction. The decision to buy new vehicles will be taken only after the auctioning was over," the sources added. Of the damaged vehicles, nearly 203 belonged to the security wing of police. These included Maruti Gypsies and ambulances. Sources put the estimated cost of these vehicles at Rs 7,56,42,000. Police Control Room (PCR), Srinagar, was too hit by the floods as its 99 vehicles, including Maruti Gypsies and motorcycles, were damaged. Their estimated was put at Rs 4,75,12000. Police department had written to the home and finance departments in this regard. Sources said the home department had given its consent to police to start the process of auctioning the damaged vehicles. Sources said while some of the damaged vehicles were got repaired by police, 302 of them could not be repaired. These were to be auctioned, the sources added. |
