Early Times Report

Kathua, Oct 22: 92- year- old widow refugee cries for justice as the entire district administration and Police department failed to retrieve her 36 kannal grabbed land.
Benti Devi w/o Late Ram Asra had 36 Kannal allotted agricultural land at Jasrota 20 km from Kathua city due to unavailability of particular heir, a neighbor has grabbed entire land forcibly.
Benti Devi said Balwinder Singh; main grabber working in JK Chief Minister's protocol pressurizes District Administration for not taking any action to retrieve the land. Balbir Singh, Bhupinder Singh and many others forcibly sew & harvest the crops and forbid the actual owner to enter the land.
While interacting to ET, Benti Devi accused the district administration of failing to retrieve the land for long. She said JK government allotted agriculture land during partition in 1947 wherein she was farming for long but her neighbors grabbed the land few years back. She appraised that few field staff of revenue department illegally transfer the documents to neighbors who belong to Punjab and having duplicate Permanent Resident Certificate in 2004.
The documents had been re-transferred after long struggle in 2014 but administration could not retrieve the land due to political pressure. The old woman, who is fighting for life on worse medical ground, cries for the justice. Her alone girl child lives in Punjab and several times appealed to Tehsildar and DDC Kathua for justice but all in vain.
Refugees who left their assets in Pakistan during partition are still insecure after 67 years. Revenue department frequently transfers refugees' land to property dealers. Many other refugees have been facing similar problem but nobody here to ask their grievances. The menace is unabated due to political interference.
Many BJP leaders who is in JK cabinet involve in the menace and perform illegal act. BJP promised to work for the justice to refugees but its leaders forcibly grabbed several kannal of lands in district Kathua.
Benti Devi said District Administration must take bold decision and retrieve the land without working under political pressure.
