Mirwaiz put under house arrest | | | early times report Srinagar, Nov 15: Moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq was today put under house arrest to prevent him from going to meet the family of Gowhar Ahmad Dar, who died after being hit by a teargas shell fired by security forces on the city outskirts on November 7, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally here. Meanwhile, hardliner Hurriyat Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) chief Shabir Shah continued to remain under house arrest. HC spokesperson advocate Shahid ul Islam said a large number of security forces and state police personnel have been deployed outside the Nigeen house of Mirwaiz. He said Mirwaiz was later informed that he has been put under house arrest and cannot leave till further orders. Mirwaiz was scheduled to meet the family member of Dar, who was killed in security force action, at their residence in Zanakute on the city outskirts, he added. Geelani remained under house arrest since he came back from Delhi last month. Meanwhile Shah also remained confined to his house since he was placed under house arrest ahead of Modi's visit to the Srinagar. Security forces and state police personnel remained deployed outside his Hyderpora residence, a spokesman for the amalgam Aiyaz Akbar said. |
