Unbelievable! Government Departments 'leading' encroachers of Wakaf land in Jammu | Encroach more than 500 kanals in winter capital | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Mocking at the State Government's claim that encroachments would not be tolerated disturbing details have emerged according to which it has come to the fore that Government departments in the State more so in winter capital have occupied hundreds of kanals of land. According to the figures dished out by Relief and Rehabilitation Department it has come to the fore that various Government Departments have occupied more than 500 kanals of Wakaf land in Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu & Kashmir. In addition to this some of the individuals have occupied more than 1000 kanals of Wakaf land in Jammu. Department of Education is leading the departments occupying the Wakaf land in the Jammu division. The department of Education has occupied 157 kanals and two Marlas of Wakaf land in Jammu. The Home department is following the department of Education and this department has occupied 132 kanals and seven Marlas of Wakaf land in the winter capital. Department of Rural Development figures at serial number three in the list of Government departments that have occupied the Wakaf land in Jammu. This department has occupied 105 kanals and 18 Marlas of Wakaf land. Department of Health comes next in this list and this Department has occupied 65 kanals and 18 Marlas of Wakaf land. Department of Local Bodies figures at serial number five in the list of Government Departments occupying the Wakaf land in the winter capital of the State. This department has occupied 39 kanals and 12 Marlas of Wakaf land. Department of Sericulture figures at serial number six with this department occupying 25 kanals and 13 Marlas of Wakaf land. In total the Government departments have occupied 526 kanals and 10 Marlas of Wakaf land in the Jammu division. According to the figures of the Department of Relief and Rehabilitation, locals as well as other private individuals have occupied around 1100 kanals of Wakaf land in the winter capital of the State. Out of this 112 kanals of land have been occupied by different persons/Government Departments in the Kunjwani area of Jammu division. In the category of locals as well as other private individuals it has come to the fore that these people have occupied 970 kanals, 15 marlas and 179 square feet of Wakaf land in the winter capital. In total 1082 kanals, 15 Marlas and 179 square feet of Wakaf land has been occupied by locals as well as other private individuals in Jammu. At the same time 56 shops belonging to the Wakaf Board have been illegally occupied by some private individuals in contrary to the provisions of Wakaf Act, 2001. |
