KCC&I finds faults in constitution of Tourism Advisory Board | Decides to meet CM for setting things right | | Jehangir Rashid
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Nov 15: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCC&I) has taken pot-shots at the recent government decision of forming Tourism Advisory Board in the State. The chamber has said that most of the members are not even remotely connected with the tourism industry and a such didn't deserve to be taken as members of the Board. These observations were made in a meeting of tourism stake-holders held here to discuss and ponder over the government decision on formation of Tourism Advisory Board. The chamber has decided to knock at doors of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed who also holds the tourism portfolio for redressal of their grievances. "The Tourism Advisory Board consists of majority of the members who are non experts drawn from different backgrounds. Experts with proven record of performance in the field of tourism should have been appointed as members of the Tourism Advisory Board," said Faiz Ahmad Bakshi, Secretary General KCC&I. Faiz said that it was felt in the meeting that the Board should have been created after threadbare consultation with local experts and tourism stake-holders, adding that the same has not been done. He said the participants were unanimous in deciding to bring to the notice of the Government their strong reservations regarding the constitution of Tourism Advisory Board. "During the meeting it was also expressed that the purpose of formation of the Board is not amply clear and also to what extent it is going to increase the growth of tourism in state. The dearth of tourism infrastructure is not a priority area of concern for promotion of tourism in the state," KCC&I Secretary General. Faiz said that during the meeting it was also felt that some of the members taken on the Tourism Advisory Board have the conflict of interest and as such are not therefore expected to deliver judiciously keeping in view the broader interests of Kashmir as a whole. "While the Chamber is considering all the pros and cons about the formation of Tourism Advisory Board it was unanimously decided by all the stakeholders that the Chamber would take up the issue immediately with Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in an appropriate manner for reconstituting the Tourism Advisory Board in consultation with the real tourism stake-holders of the state," KCC&I Secretary General. |
