Sarpanch-Patwari hooliganism irks villagers | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 15: A Sarpanch of a Panchyat Halqa considered being a care-taker and trouble-shooter for the villagers has become a nuisance for them in connivance with the Halqa Patwari of village Chann Khaterian of Tehsil Hiranagar. The sources informed Early Times that the powerful Sarpanch of panchyat halqa Chann Khaterian Samsheer Singh, falling in Tehsil Hiranagar of District Kathua has adopted a modus-operandi to acquire land in front of locality of the village blocking the decades old streets of its inhabitants to harass and exploit gullible villagers for extracting money. A photo of one of the localities of the area in the possession of Early Times vividly shows that very old street of the locality comprising of more than twenty families was totally blocked by constructing foundation wall by the Sarpanch after acquiring front land measuring over a kanal making it impossible for the street-users to pass through. The victims of his excesses, Raju Chowdhary, Kuldip Singh, Gajo Singh and others approached the local police and the revenue authorities to rid them of the illegal activities of the Sarpanch, the sources told adding that all their efforts to get relief from the concerned authorities did not yield favourable result making the life of these families grossly miserable. The sources further told that another villager Subash Singh S/O Dharam Singh is also a victim of Sarpanch, who encroached his five marlas of land in connivance with the Patwari located in Shaku Chack but despite his requests to the local Patwari and Revenue Department, he has failed to get justice due to the obstinacy and cruelties of the influential Sarpanch lamenting that he has allegedly created his own fiefdom there by using all the illegal means to amass wealth within a short span of time having political and administrative patronage putting the life of the villagers in thick soup with no one to mitigate their difficulties and get riddance from such a unsympathetic Sarpanch. Several attempts were made to contact the concerned Revenue Officer telephonically to get his version, but he did not pick up the calls. |
