Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 15: The postponement of objective type written test by Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) at the eleventh hour has invited wrath of thousands of aspirants of far off places. The objective type written test for nearly 300 posts of various types including Multi Purpose Worker, ANM worker, Junior Dental Assistant, Election Assistant, Junior Staff Nurse, Ex Ray Technician beside others was scheduled to be held on November 14. More than 10,000 candidates were scheduled to take the objective type test and majority of aspirants from far flung districts had already reached Jammu and Srinagar city, as the examination centres were only established in the twin capital cities. One of aspirant from district Poonch, Javed Ahmed said that he along with his sister and parents had already reached Jammu on November 13, but in the evening they received a message that test scheduled on November 14 has been postponed. "It left us totally perplexed as hiring of two rooms in Jammu requires a good amount. Moreover vehicles' fare and other expenditure also cost heavily to us all those aspirants who have reached Jammu and Srinagar from far off places", he said. Criticizing the JKSSB authorities for their alleged ill preparedness, he said JKSSB must flash message in advance so that far flung areas students would not suffer. "JKSSB should made examination centres at district headquarters, where there is huge availability of space and infrastructure, so that poor students of far flung areas will not suffer", Sunil Sharma of Bhaderwah said, adding that due to repeated postponement of exams, many aspirants of far flung areas failed to visit Jammu for taking written test. Instead of decentralization, the JKSSB authorities have been centralizing the examination system, another applicant said. Pertinently, the objective type written examination is rescheduled to be held on November 29from 2 PM to 4:30 PM. Secretary JKSSB, SA Raina said that an examination center was to be set up in Government Degree College Gandhi Nagar but in the meantime the College authorities communicated to JKSSB that Staff Selection Commission had also made an examination centre in the college on November 15 due to which, SSB had to change the examination centre. He further said that the examination center was shifted to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and registration numbers of aspirants were also uploaded with examination centre at SMVDU. "Some of the aspirants approached a Minister, pleading that SMVDU is very far from city so the examination centre must be shifted to Jammu city. Moreover at the eleventh hour, SMVDU authorities also expressed their helplessness for making arrangements due to some function in their University", Raina said, adding that they tried their best to arrange some college in city but failed. After a meeting of Board members, a decision was taken to postpone the examination of 14th of November, Raina said. When asked why examination centres are not established in far flung districts, Raina said that there was shortage of sitting space in districts besides there could be issues of secrecy. |
