Deptt of Youth Services in 'disservice' of Youth | 108 players dispatched for national participation without railway reservation | | Shiv Dev Thakur Early Times Report JAMMU, The neglect and apathy of the department of youth services and sports towards the young players of the state is well known, but it crossed all limits when the department dispatched teams of the state to the national school games without railway reservation in this chilling winter. The criminal negligence on part of the officers of the department can be gauged from the fact that despite knowing well in advance, they did not care to get the reservations for over 108 players who were to represent the state in the School nationals and the previous day, these budding sports persons were loaded in unreserved compartment of the Jhelum Express, not only to brave the winter chill but also face the security threat that is associated with journey in unreserved compartments of Trains which are generally over crowded. According to reliable sources, this is not for the first time that the players have been meted out such a raw deal by the department of YS&S and despite several complaints by the parents, the higher officers have not held the concerned officials accountable for their apathy. Narayan Dutt, a parent of a players divulged that the Directorate of Youth Sports and Services knew months in advance about this championship and ample time to organize and get the reservations done, but officials were completely indifferent to the plight of participating players. "On Wednesday, I along with my wife went to Station to see off our ward and at the time of departure of Jhelum Express, we came to know that not a single seat was booked" said another parent demanding action against the concerned department and officials responsible for the mess. It is pertinent to mention here that the department of youth services is doing great disservice to the youth by extending such treatment to the players. The department was recently in news for total anarchy observed in its organization and selection of women's nationals under Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan in Jammu recently. Several attempts to contact Director Youth Services and Sports went in vain as he was not available to take call. |
