Health Minister opposes Govt's policy guidelines | "No PPP in health sector till I am the Minister" | | Nitesh Sangral
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 26: Contradicting the road map of the Finance Minister of incorporating Public Private Partnership (PPP) to improve health and other sectors in the state, Minister for Health and Medical Education yet again stood on different page by saying that PPP mode will not be introduced in health sector in the State. Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir Government recently stated that 10 key sectors have been identified for rapid infrastructure upgradation in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode including health sector to introduce new and latest technology in addressing the health needs of the state and made good State's progress on key health indicators like life expectancy and infant mortality. "Till I'm Minister, the PPP mode will not be introduced in health sector in the State and will ensure that all medical facilities would be provided free in government hospitals to all the people of the State, the Minister for Health and Medical Education Department said during press conference. The Minister time and again has contradicted government's policy guidelines. Earlier he also attracted criticism from certain quarters after he supported sex determination tests to check the skewed sex ratio. Some Health Department sources and individuals sitting in high chairs in government set up, revealed to Early Times that there is already shortage of private hospitals due to Article 370; which offers special status to Jammu and Kashmir and has become root cause of absence of private players in health sector. "Today, the healthcare system in the State is facing numbers of challenges in quality health services to people because of fewer resources in the sector and hence there is dire need for PPP to address the problems as the Government and private players jointly under PPP mode will be of great help to boost health sector in the state. "PPP will also help government run hospitals in infrastructure set-up as well as introduction of new and latest technology so that people of state can get quality treatment on subsidized rates within the state," they stated. Meantime former Health Minister and senior congress leader Sham Lal Sharma said," if the PPP mode will be introduced in Health Sector in the State, poor people as well as those who can afford the treatment will get quality health care facilities. "Due to shortage of resources in health sector, there is dire need of PP partnership mode to boost health sector, "he stated. |
