JAMMU, Dec 26 : Organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Athletics Association, the 13th State Championship got underway at BSF Stadium, here today. The event was declared open by president of J&K Olympic Association, Rangil Singh. Suneel Mahajan was guest of honour in the inaugural events. Around 250 young male and female athletes of the state are taking part in this competition, which is sponsored by the J&K State Sports Council. Prominent among others present were Ashutosh Sharma, Ravinder Singh, Vikas Gupta, Sheikh Tulal Ahmed, Romesh Sharma, Nirmal Singh, Sarwant Singh Gill, Sharat Chander Singh, Gurucharan Singh, Gurmeet Singh, Sahil Sharma, Gurbachan Singh, Ajay Sharma, Sarbjit Singh, Chamail Singh and Vinod Bhatia.

BOYS : Under-14 year: 400 mts: Gunjeet Singh, Ist; Abhinav Kundan, 2nd and Traiq Mehmood, 3rd. Under-16 year: 400 mts : Asaf-Ul-Zaman, Ist; Harman Pal Singh, 2nd and Hardil Aziz, 3rd. 1500 mts: Kulvir Singh, Ist; Sajjad Ahmed, 2nd and Umar Farooq, 3rd. 600 mts : Zahid Ahmed, Ist; Maqsood Ahmed, 2nd and Bhanu Sharma, 3rd.
Under-20 year : 1500 mts: Younis Mushtaq, Ist; Omar Hammed Dar, 2nd and Inderpal Singh, 3rd. 400 mts: Pankaj Saini, Ist; Mohd Tariq, 2nd and Abid Hussain, 3rd. Long Jump: Vishal Singh, Ist; Wahid Ahmed, 2nd and Abid Hussain, 3rd.
