PDP 'sets pre-conditions' for Govt formation | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 15: The PDP is not averse to the idea of forming government with the BJP. This was what PDP leader Naeem Akhtar told NDTV India the other day. At the same time, he made it loud and clear that the PDP would form coalition government with the BJP only if it made a solemn commitment that it will give a freehand to the PDP so that it could accomplish what it couldn't during the time of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. "The PDP is not for power. The PDP stands for the Mufti Sayeed's vision. Mufti Sahab had stature that he could absorb this. The dilemma in the PDP is that in absence of such a towering leader can we actually just go and sit in the ministerial chairs and continue with the same thing? The PDP was 'reviewing how much of the common vision of PM and Mufti Sahab regarding J&K had been taken forward' and how this would dictate a future course of action' for the party," he, inter-alia, said. Actually, Naeem Akhtar put forth at least three conditions. One, the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre will hand over the NHPC-managed power projects in J&K to the State Government. The BJP, according to a report, is willing to hand over at least one such project to the State Government. Two, the Union Government must ask the Army to vacate the land it occupies in different parts of the State. Three, the Union Government must engage with Kashmiri separatists so that they were also brought on board and the political issues confronting Kashmir could be resolved. There are three more issues which the PDP wants the BJP to address on a priority basis. One, it must withdraw from the J&K High Court the case that led to the stay of the order of the Single-Bench on the State Flag. The two-Judge Bench of J&K High Court, Jammu wing, stayed the order that made compulsory the hoisting of the State flag on official cars used by constitutional authorities and all Government buildings. Two, the PDP wants the BJP to go with it as far as its stand on the cow-killing and beef eating laws in the State are concerned. Three, it wants more portfolios. Not only this, the PDP also wants the BJP to drop its demand seeking the post of Deputy Chief Minister. Besides, the PDP wants the BJP and the RSS not to rake up Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution. Earlier, it was the BJP which threw the ball in the court of the BJP. It had said that the BJP would respond once the PDP elects leader of the legislature party. And on Thursday, the PDP threw back the ball in the BJP's court saying if the latter was really interested in forging an alliance with it, the BJP has to make a categorical commitment that it will endorse all the policy decisions of the PDP. |
