Guv's admn asks police to rein separatists | 'Act tough against anti-national elements' | | Early Times Report jammu, Jan 15: Governor's administration has reportedly asked the law enforcing agencies to take stern action against the separatists if they make an attempt to disturb law and order. Sources told Early Times, Superintendents of Police (SPs) have been asked to ensure that separatists don't get a chance to take advantage of any situation. "No one should be allowed to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the State," sources quoted top officials having told the district police chiefs. Insiders claimed that Police have shifted their entire focus on the forthcoming Republic Day and arrangements are being put at place to ensure that militants don't dare to disrupt the functions which would take place across Jammu and Kashmir. "Security agencies are keeping a strict vigil over the activities of the separatists and their henchmen who may try to orchestrate street protests in coming days," said a source. He said that separatists are making desperate attempts to fuel unrest across Kashmir as they are trying to encash the strike in Pulwama town which has been going on for the past 16 days. Pertinently, Pulwama town in south Kashmir has been observing a shutdown since December 31 to press for establishing a memorial for militants, who were killed in gunfights with security forces, in the town. However, district administration has made it clear to the people that no such memorial would be allowed. Sources said that Governor's administration has asked the Police to ensure that trouble should not spill over to adjoining areas nor should separatists be allowed to reach there to add fuel to the fire. "We cannot allow anyone to glorify militancy. We have got clear instructions from our higher ups that no one should be allowed to set up a memorial," said a top Police officer. He said since the day Governor's rule has been imposed in JK, Police and security agencies have been directed to deal with anti-national elements with an iron fist. "Even separatists are maintaining a low profile in Governor's rule as they know it very well that situation has changed and they cannot get away if they try to foment trouble," the Police officer added. Sources claimed that dossier against most separatists who are out on bail has been prepared and Police are waiting for a chance to nab them. "For past 16-days we have ensured that shutdown and stone pelting doesn't spill to adjoining areas around Pulwama town. Scores of trouble mongers have been arrested and the henchmen of separatists who can take the advantage of the situation have been either booked or are being watched constantly." |
