25% quota for poor students seeking admissions in pvt schools | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 15: Definitely I am in support of reservation for the poor, economically and educationally backward people. I am in favour that there should be some provision in the Education Act that few seats should be kept reserved in private schools for the underprivileged children seeking admission in such educational institutions. I have already raised the issue of reservation for economically backward people in private hospitals as well so that they could get better medical facilities. I must inform you that government conceded to my demand and fixed reservation of some beds for economically backward sections of the society in private health institutions functioning at Jammu as well as Srinagar. Similarly, there is monopoly of sorts in education's private sector and in order to remove such domination of commercial system there should be some relaxation for the poor people in getting their wards admitted in private schools. I fully endorse that there should be reservation in admissions in private schools for the underprivileged children to some extent though I would refrain from suggesting that what percentage should be earmarked for such a provision. It is good that Delhi government has made provision of 25 percent reservation in admissions in private schools for economically backward students who want to avail education from private institutions. The children belonging to poor and down trodden sections of the society have every right to get quality education. They should be provided with all modern educational facilities. I fully support reservation in admissions in private schools with at least 5 to 10 percent fixed quota for underprivileged children of the state.
