Early Times Report
rajouri, Jan 15: Tall claims by the state government to provide better and sufficient basic amenities especially potable water and electricity fall flat in Rajouri districts as the inhabitants of the district have been facing acute shortage of these essential commodities.
For the last many days inhabitants of various areas have been orgaising protests against the officials of Public Health Engineering (PHE) and Power Development Department(PDD) demanding adequate supply of these essential commodities.
Inhabitants of village Chowkian, Kotranka, Budhal Sarota Namble( in Kalakot) while organizing protests said that unofficial power curtailments ranging between 14 -18 hours a day have badly affected the normal life and especially students and patients in the hospitals have been facing difficulties.
People from Noushera ,Manjakot, Thanamandi , Darhal tehsils are also facing the same problems and said that low voltage ranging between 50-60 volts has damaged their electronic gadgets.
"Besides official curtailment for 8 hours a day due to overloading and to save our equipment we have been advised by the higher authorities to impose force cuts which ranges between 1-2 hours a day. Meanwhile a local PDD official briefly defended that local faults including damage to fuses and supply lines are some other factors which force the department to snap the power supply.
Yet in another similar protest, locals from village Dassal and other adjoining villages situated in the vicinity of Rajouri city have also staged protest against the PDD officials and demanded to stop the long unofficial power curtailments affecting the people badly especially the studies of the children.
Inhabitants of far flung areas in Darhal, Budhal, Manjakot,Thanamandi tehsils have made several representations to DDC and XEN ,PDD alleging that they are getting bills with huge amounts despite the facts the department has failed to supply power regularly.
"At most of the places the Transformer supplied under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidytikaran Yojna (RGGVY) in Rajouri district got damaged due to overloading and other technical faults. The repair of these transformers is not possible at Rajouri and it takes a long time to get these transformers replaced from Jammu" said Executive Engineer PDD.
