Dr D K Gupta clarifies, says 'sole motive of visiting JK is to serve people | | | Srinagar, Mar 6: Days after it was alleged that senior-most "orthopaedic Dr D K Gupta from Batra Hospital had asked a patient to visit him in the hospital outside the state for the expensive surgery, the Doctor Friday clarified his position by stating that at times a patient comes with a severe problem which cannot be treated within the state. In a statement to Early Times, Director City hospital Tengpora Dr Shakeel said that Dr D K Gupta in his message has conveyed that he is not a non state subject and is born and brought up in Jammu. "He did his MBBS from Govt Medical College Srinagar and is among the most well-read Orthopaedician in the country. He is the honorary Orthopaedic Surgeon for the president of India and is heading department of Orthopaedics in Batra Hospital Delhi," the statement reads. The statement further reads, “Dr Gupta has innumerable patients from the country and abroad and comes to Kashmir every month for 2 days despite his busy schedule only with the intent of serving the people he feels he owes to”. About the overcharging fee the statement says "Since the doctor comes to and fro from Delhi, and stays in Kashmir. It amounts to expenses. Besides, the Hospital provides the space to hold OPD's for which they charge,". It also said that the surgeries that Dr. D K Gupta undertakes in Kashmir cost the patients almost half of what it would otherwise cost in Delhi. It is to mention here that, a patient (name withheld) had alleged that he had to face a worst experience after he visited a senior-most "orthopaedic Dr D K Gupta from Batra Hospital in Srinagar. |
