Govt starts process of rectifying mistakes in ration cards | | | Mohd Irfan Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 6: In the wake of large-scale complaints about mistakes in the names of consumers in new ration cards, CAPD department has started the process of rectifying mistakes. These mistakes could have crept into the application forms during renewal of ration cards, official sources said. Long queues of people could be seen outside ration shops here for signing forms and rectifying mistakes. This is the only mode of rectification available to consumers in J&K. No online facility has been extended to them. Cardholders had been allowed to propose the corrections only once since it consumed time, the sources added. The whole exercise is being done to carry out a social audit based on the household details under National Food Security Act (NFSA) which has been set in motion in J&K. The renewed cards were be issued in January 2016, but these had yet not been given to people. Despite a circular issued by deputy commissioner, Jammu, to collect new ration cards by making a payment of Rs 50 for BPL, Rs 75 for AAY and Rs 100 for others and March 6 being the last date in this connection, consumers were yet to get the cards. When contacted, Jammu DC Simrandeep Singh said it was for the first time in the history that CAPD department's record was being made digitized and admitted that there were certain discrepancies in the new provisional lists. "There are around 15 lakh entries of the new ration cards. We have adopted a mechanism for the consumers whose entries are wrongly added in their forms. These will be corrected. We have issued 3.50 lakh new ration cards. 1.50 lakh of them have glaring mistakes which will be corrected but it's a challenging task for us and concerned tehsildars are being given powers to make corrections," he added. "To establish a foolproof data is really a cumbersome process and it's not easy to complete it in two months. Powers are being delegated to tehsildars, TSOs and CAPD ADs to look into the formation of new ration cards," the DC said. "The consumers, whose names don't appear in new lists, need not to worry. Instructions have been issued to again fill their forms so that they too get new ration cards," he informed. If there were five members in a family, they would get 25 kg ration, he said. |
