Govt formation hits roadblock | | | Ashok Atri Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 6: The President of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mehbooba Mufti may not form the government till Centre announces Confidence Building Measures and assures peace in JK, sources told Early Times on Sunday. They said she had sent former finance minister Haseeb Drabu to Delhi to hold negotiations with BJP leadership to end stalemate over government formation in Jammu and Kashmir. "Negotiations lasted for two days but without any results. The issue of CBMs raised by PDP was discussed threadbare ,during the course of discussion with BJP leadership. BJP had agreed to accept some of the demands but not all," they added. "Fresh attempts were made to end dead lock but all in vain as both sides stuck to their stands. PDP asked Drabu to return." After Drabu's return from Delhi, Mehbooba chaired a meeting of MLAs and other senior leaders of both the regions. "She was advised to opt for government formation to safeguard the interest of people," sources added. Mehbooba, is understood to have told the party legislators that she would not form the government till center announces CBMs. Meanwhile, state BJP leaders are hoping that deadlock would end soon and popular government would be at at place soon. "All assessments and perceptions of the media about govt formation may not be correct as central government is reluctant to accept all the demands of PDP as some of the issues are against National policy," said a source. |
