When City is on high alert, 'Hon'ble Speaker' is dancing | | | Early Times Report jammu, Mar 6: Even as the state is confronted with political uncertainty and Jammu city has been put on high security alert ahead of Mahashivratri, Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, who remains lone statutory elected institution in the absence of a popular government, had time only to shake a leg at a function in Jammu on Sunday. Alert has been sounded all across the state, especially Jammu region ahead of the Shivratri that falls on Monday. Under such circumstances, elected representatives are expected to assure the people of their security and well being. A Kashmiri Pandit, resident of Kavinder Gupta's Gandhinagar constituency, visibly distressed by his MLA's partying at a function, said: "At a time when the popular Government is not in place, but the Legislative Assembly is still intact, the Speaker, who is the presiding officer of the Assembly remains the only elected institution in place and thus assumes a crucial position of responsibility, but it was disheartening to see that the Speaker dancing rather than reaching out to people was dancing at a private function." |
