Meant for North, fertilizer dealers dump stock in South Kashmir | 60 out of 300 vehicles unloaded in South Kashmir against rules | | Saahil Suhail Early Times Report Anantnag, Mar 6: Contrary to rules, fertilizer wholesale dealers in nexus with enforcement wing of agriculture department, allegedly dumped and sold fertilizer meant for north Kashmir to retailers in South Kashmir. A group of fertilizer dealers told Early Times that as many as two dozen trucks loaded with IPL-MOP unloaded the fertilizer in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama instead of dumping the stock at Rack Point Nowgam. They claimed that senior officers of the department were aware about the business of selling fertilizer to retailers of south Kashmir against rules. Wholesale dealers claimed that dealers from north Kashmir sold IPL-MOP fertilizer to retailers of South to mint carriage money. "South Kashmir consumes 70 percent of the fertilizer which is being supplied to Kashmir division while as north and central Kashmir consumes just around 30 percent of the supply. Wholesale dealers of north are well aware of this fact so they prefer to sell their stock in south at lower rates," they added. Syed Mohd Yousf- State President of Fertilizer Dealers Association told Early Times that by selling fertilizer to retailers of South Kashmir, wholesale dealers of north Kashmir are allegedly minting the freight charges with the active support of Department. "Each vehicle is being given 8000 as freight charges for transporting fertilizer to Kupwara district from Rack Point Nowgam but just to save this amount they are selling their stock in South to save this amount," he said, adding department is purely involved in this illegal business. Asking department to make Rack Point Nowgam functional for whole Kashmir division, Syed said that department is responsible for shortage fertilizer in South Kashmir. "In past five companies which supply fertilizer to Kashmir where used to dump fertilizer in Awantipora and at Rack Point Nowgam but now department as relocated the Rack Point for south Kashmir and at present our Rack Point is in Udamphur which is injustice with South Kashmir and reason for the shortage," he said while demanding shifting of the Rack Point to Nowgam. Syed Mohd Yousf claimed that out of 300 around 60 trucks were unloaded in South Kashmir against the rules. Officer, who is responsibly to monitor the movement of trucks loaded with fertilizer admitted that few trucks were unloaded in southern district. "Every truck has to pass south Kashmir so I accept few trucks were unloaded in South as the area is facing shortage of MOP," officer told Early Times. He asked this reporter to not make issue out of it, "This is dealer rivalry, don't give hype to it as south Kashmir facing is shortage of fertilizer," he added. Director controller fertilizer, Dr S S Jamwal on being contacted assured action, "This issue was already brought into my notice, I have asked by subordinate staff to look into the matter," he said. |
