NHAI to book traffic violators, encroachers

Udhampur, Mar5: The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to book people found indulging in traffic violation along the highway.
Regarding shifting of utilities of various departments from National Highway four lanes under construction in Udhampur District, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Angrez Singh Rana convened a meeting of concerned officers at DC office, Udhampur, here on Sunday.
During the meeting, threadbare discussions were held on various issues which mainly include two closures, each of social forestry & soil conservation, demolition of structures in Phangyal segment, shifting of utilities of EM&RE, STD & PHE, demolition of 220 structures, transmission line tower, land acquisition Jakhani, checking of overweight vehicles, broken medians and encroachments etc.
Directions were given to the Project Director NHAI to release the requisite amount within weeks time in favour of concerned departments for shifting their respective utilities from the National Highway. It was decided that the Gammon India Ltd shall ensure the construction of culvert in first instance for shifting of utilities of PHE department.
ADC instructed the Gammon India Ltd to provide the list of contractors with their complete details, in whose favour the company has sublet/assigned different type of works for their character verification.
PD NHAI Jammu should ensure expansion of Ban toll Plaza with more terminals to avoid traffic jamming. He further directed that NHAI should also ensure that the personnel's deployed on the Ban Toll Plaza bear good character and do not have any criminal background. Besides they should also bear proper uniform along with name plate and names of the employees be provided to the DC Udhampur and DC Jammu.
PD, NHAI was also directed that surface of NH near bridges should be uniform and proper in order to avoid inconvenience to the commuters besides immediate blacktopping and repair of road from Chenani to Nashri. He exhorted upon PD NHAI to lodge FIRs against those who had either broken the medians or encroached the national Highway in any form.
Meeting was attended by Project Director NHAI, Mr M. T. Attrade, Joint Director Planning, Mr Rakesh Jamwal, ASP Mr M L Kaith, SDM Chenani D K Sharma, Project Director Gammon India ltd, Mr Mishra, Xen's PHE, STD, TLMD, EM &RE, Tehsildar Udhampur and Tehsildar Chenani.
