Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 20: J&K- State Women Commission has shot a letter to the Police Headquarters (PHQ), and urged the top officials to hold a thorough investigation into the complaint of harassment lodged by a lady cop DySP Shashi Thakur.
In the communiqué No Cew/CP/PS/174 to PHQ the J&K State Women Commission has said that some police officers, who were allegedly supporting encroachments adjacent to her residence at Jammu, are 'harassing her by indulging in character assassination and defaming and demoralizing her.
. The Commission forwarded the complaint to PHQ after matter was investigated by State Vigilance Organisation and report submitted to the General Administration Department.
The Commission further said that it had summoned the complainant as well as the respondent Police Officers. during proceedings, the respondents denied the allegations leveled against them. However, after perusal of the vigilance report, the Commission observed that the plea of the complainant carries some weight.
"The complaint of a lady Police Officer against her own colleagues does not augur well for the department and depicts a dismal picture before the common people who look towards police as their protectors.
The atrocities against women at work places are increasing day by day and there is need to safeguard women rights. The complainant in the present case is in a state of mental agony as the whole episode has disturbed her personal life which could affect her official duties as well. A thorough investigation in the matter and take appropriate action against the police officers involved to work as deterrent for others", the Commission said to PHQ.
Meanwhile, a senior police officer in PHQ when contacted acknowledged that such complaint has been received and has been forwarded to the IGP Jammu for investigation, but, as per reports received, he said, nothing has been found as yet against the officials and inquiry is still in progress.
