Gudder land scam: Revenue officials in dock | | | Saahil Suhail

Kulgam, Mar 20: Government is mulling to take stern action against six revenue officials for their alleged involvement in 'Gudder land scam'. The accused officials would face action for allotting state land to 'blue-eyed' villagers of Gudder in Kulgam district of South Kashmir. Inquiry report submitted to Financial Commissioner Revenue, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Samoon, Vigilance Organization of Kashmir maintains that the officials tampered land revenue records during settlement process to favor some blue-eyed villagers and bureaucrats. According to report, Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner Bashir Ahmad Khan (KAS) tops the list of beneficiaries. He has been allotted over 90 Kanal of state land by the officials. However, Khan maintains that land was registered on his name by the revenue authorities to hide the wrong doings. Early Times has learnt from reliable sources that days after Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, who was Inquiring the scam submitted a report toDivisional Commissioner Kashmir, The Financial Commissioner Revenue took a suo-motto cognizance of the scam and constituted a committee for re-investigation. Commissioner Settlement was heading the committee, who on 12th of this month visited Gudder Village in Kulgam district for on spot verification, an official told Early Times. He revealed that many villagers who seems to have got benefited due to this scam even tried to take the senior official hostage but they failed to do so. Officer said that Financial Commissioner Revenue also sent seven queries to Kulgam district administration during the investigation process. "He wanted minute details like Khasra Numbers etc which we provided to him in just 24hours," Revenue official posted at Kulgam pleading anonymity told ET. Sources revealed that in coming days, officials involved in the scam would face the action. Pertinent to mention here, revenue authorities during settlement process have changed the nature of over 500 Kanals of state land in Gudder Village of Kulgam. The state land registered under section 4 of the Agrarian Act was changed and registered under section 5 and was allotted to some families in the village. Land registered under section 4 of the Agrarian Act is purely state land and no citizen has right to cultivate the same but under a citizen can cultivate the land if registered under Section 5 of the Act. |
