Anantnag, Mar 26 : At least one civilian and two army men sustained injuries in Bijbehara area of this southern district on Saturday when militants hurled a grenade on a moving army vehicle here today. Official sources said militants hurled a hand grenade on an army vehicle of 1RR near police station Bijbehara at about3 pm. Two army men and a civilian, identified as Farooq Ahmad of Dupatyaar, sustained injuries in the attack. They were evacuated to nearby Sub-District Hospital, Bijbehara. While the jawans were later shifted to army hospital, Srinagar, the civilian was referred to SKIMS, Srinagar. Following the attack, army and police fired several rounds in air while as militants managed to escape from the spot. Forces later cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Meanwhile, Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) terror outfit has claimed responsibility for the grenade attack. HM spokesperson Burhan-u-din told a local News Agency that militants of their outfit lobbed a grenade on army personnel. "HM Operational Field Commander has congratulated militants for this attack and directed them to intensify attacks on forces," the spokesperson said. |
