Shortage of officers hits traffic police functioning | Posts of IG traffic, DIG traffic, Srinagar, lying vacant for 5 months | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 26 : At a time when the shortage of officers is said to have hit the traffic police functioning across the state, there has been an inordinate delay in filling the posts of IG, traffic police, and DIG, traffic police, Srinagar, which are lying vacant for the past over five months. Police sources said even as there was no dearth of officers in the state police department, the requisite number of officers were not being posted in traffic police which was adversely affecting its functioning. Even the Jammu district traffic police was 'headless' as its SP had proceeded on a week's leave. He was scheduled to join his duties on Monday, sources informed. After the transfer of traffic police IG J P Singh, the government surprisingly did not order his replacement. The additional charge of the post was given to a DIG rank officer. During this time, the DIG looked after the works of both traffic police and thana police. After Viplav Kumar Choudhary was posted as DIG traffic police, he was also given the additional charge of IG traffic police. "The department is running on additional charge since October last," sources said. In October last, DIG, traffic police, Alok Kumar was transferred to another police wing. Since then DIG, CKR range, was holding the additional charge of DIG, traffic police, the sources added. Sources said there was also shortage of lower and middle rung officers in the state traffic police department. Be it the national highway, rural Kashmir or Jammu city, there was no adequate deployment of traffic police personnel, sources added. Though the senior traffic police personnel had taken up the matter with the higher authorities, they were yet to take a decision to fill the vacant posts in the department and provide the requisite number of cops to the department. |
