Srinagar, Mar 26 : The body of a soldier, who had gone missing after a snow avalanche hit an Army patrol in Turtuk sector of Ladakh, was today recovered by troops from under snow. Rifleman Sunil Rai, who was buried under snow after an avalanche hit an Army patrol yesterday in the Turtuk Sector in Ladakh region, was recovered by rescue teams today. A defence spokesman said in the said incident, Havaldar Tamang had also died. The mortal remains of the dead jawans would be airlifted to their respective hometowns where these would be consigned to flames with full military honours, he added. Havaldar Tamang is survived by his wife, a six-year-old daughter and parents, whereas Rifleman Sunil Rai is survived by his parents and two younger brothers. Lt Gen DS Hooda, Army Commander, Northern Command, has conveyed deep condolences to the families of the martyrs. "The Indian Army fraternity stands shoulder to shoulder with the bereaved families in their hour of grief," he said. |
