Anti-NFSA protests at Amira Kadal
3 women injured in police action

srinagar, Mar 26: Three women sustained injuries after police used force quell their protest against implementation of 'controversial' National Food Security Act (NFSA) at Amira Kadal area here Saturday.
Anti NFSA protests erupted at Amira Kadal and Koker Bazar areas with people demanding enhancement in monthly ration from approved 5 kilograms to 11 kilograms per person on monthly basis.
Amid anti-government slogans the protesters mainly women and children blocked busy Amira Kadal Bridge and sat on a peaceful 'dharna' to protest implementation of NFSA in the state.
The protesting women demanded enhancement in monthly ration allocation or complete rollback of the act.
"We have not gathered here to stage drama, our protest is aimed to press the government to enhance ration from approved five kilograms to eleven kilograms per person per month, Kashmiri people are rice eaters how could one sustain on mere five kilograms rice," Faheemda a protesting women shouted.
She said that the government other than extending helping hand to poor people is acting as a dictator by introducing anti people acts in Kashmir.
"We are rice eaters, we cannot survive on mere five kilogram rice, government should keep this thing in mind that the act is beneficial for other states where people consumes less rice and prefer wheat," she added.
They demanded that the government should immediately find an acceptable alternate so that the people are not forced to come on roads.
"How could a family having two or three members sustain on ten or fifteen kilogram rice monthly, why don't this government take this issue seriously which has now snowballed into a major controversy," Rukhsana another protester said.
Meanwhile police fired several tear smoke shells and charged canes to disperse the protesters who tried to march towards city centre Lal Chowk to highlight their demands.
The protesters later dispersed peacefully however three woman of Koker Bazar area suffered minor injuries in police action.
