CITU stages protest demonstration against NHPC
4/1/2016 11:28:42 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 1 : A protest demonstration was held by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, J&K (CITU) in front of the Regional Office NHPC Narwal in support of the genuine issues and problems of the contractual labourers/workers working for more than 10 years in the organization. The contractual labourers are being shown receiving full salary including EPF and ESI benefits when in reality they are not being paid all admissible facilities including salary etc. In this connection the case has been pending disposal for conciliation in the office of Regional Labour Commissioner, Jammu. The female contractual workers are being harassed immorally by the management and no action, whatsoever, has been taken against the erring officers so far despite repeated pleas made by the poor workers. The management has replaced the old contractor in order to disengage the contractual labourers working for more than 10 years. The new contractor has hired fresh labourers to replace the old ones in contravention to the set norms, as a result of which the laborers have been holding protest dharnas in front of the Regional Office, NHPC. Om Prakash General Secretary, CITU while addressing the protest demonstration warned the management to behave well and allow continuing the services of the contractual workers working for more than 10 years, providing full admissible benefits to them and stopping harassing the poor female workers, failing which the CITU will launch a protracted agitation both legally and on ground. Sham Prasad Kesar Senior leader CITU assured full support to the workers.
