Mehbooba wants 'regional' tag removed in Govt's second innings
4/2/2016 12:26:47 AM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 1: The stage is finally set for new alliance government led by Mehbooba Mufti to take oath in the literal sense of the word, preparations having begun in full swing in Raj Bhawan premises. The new thing is that as new Chief Minister of the state, Mehbooba would like her government not be seen as divided on regional lines as it remained in the first innings, instead a cohesive one working in unison for the entire state.
Sources said that Mehbooba Mufti has discussed the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during her meeting with him that the alliance government would work as a cohesive one, rather than remaining fragmented on regional lines which has only wrought damage and affected governance during last year.
Even though the two parties had forged alliance on a specified and well defined agenda for governance and equal development , it remained divided on regional lines as BJP ministers led by Deputy Chief Minister were seen to be running a parallel government for Jammu in the manner PDP ministers led by late Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed were seen as the government functioning only for Kashmir region, sources said. This fragmented image , which even though was not for real, dented the credibility of the government in totality besides harming the image of both the parties in two regions when they were seen as working for respective regions they belong to.
However, this time the new Chief Minister would not like the things on those lines to get repeated after the new government takes over next week, sources said, adding that a loud and clear message has been given to those to be inducted in the Council of Ministers in both the parties that they should no more be seen carrying regional identity tag instead as the ministers for the entire state. Mehbooba is also learnt to be firm on ministers also becoming accessible to the common masses irrespective of which region they belong to, contrary to what was seen during the last time when Kashmir based ministers would not entertain people from Jammu and likewise Jammu based ministers would pay no heed to problems of people from Kashmir.
