LPG tanker falls into Chenab; locals in panic | | | Early Times Report RAMBAN, Apr 25: After more than 20 hours, the district administration has failed to retrieve the Bharat Petroleum Tanker carrying LPG that rolled down into river Chenab, putting the lives of thousand people at risk. According to officials, the said gas tanker was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar when the driver lost control over the vehicle near Jaswal Bridge, Karol due to which the tanker skidded off from the road and fell into river Chenab previous night. Officials further said that there was no information about the persons travelling in the ill fated tanker. As per the eye witness, the upper portion of the tanker which is full with Liquid highly inflammable Petroleum Gas (LPG) has been separated from the body of the tanker due to heavy water flow in the river. "It has floated around 3 km downstream towards Maitra from accident site" an eye witness said. Locals said that ever since the tanker accident, we are living under constant threat, while the administration is still not taking any action to retrieve the tanker. They further said that the police department has directed us not to come out of houses till the recue ends. When contacted Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Randeep Kumar said that yesterday late night when department received information about the accident, a SDRF and police team rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. He further said that the department has informed the Bharat Petroleum Gas Agency and asked them to send their safety officers to rescue the tanker at earliest. "For the meanwhile, the department is taking all safety measures to avoid any mishap adding that there is no report of leakage of tanker which could be dangerous for local people" he said. |
