Trouble for 'Birbal' in offing as CM takes Edu deptt's control | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 25: The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti taking senior officials of Education Department to task has once again reflected how messy the ground situation is and contradicts what Education Minister Naeem Akhtar, who is known as Birbal, has been claiming before the press. Since the day of assuming office, Akhtar has been eulogising none but himself for making what he terms the 'revolutionary' measures in state's education sector. He has also been saying that such a vital sector was left in shambles by the successive regimes of the state and it is during his tenure that a major reboot is being ensured. But what pricked Akhtar's tall claims were the constant jibes by the Chief Minister during a recent meeting held at the civil secretariat of which the Education Minister Naeem Akhar was also the part. Mehbooba castigated the helmsmen of the Education Department in front of all for creating a serious mess in the department. Mehbooba categorically asked Akhtar and his team that the teacher-student ratio in the government schools at Jammu and Srinagar is inappropriate and needs a serious remedy at an earliest. She pulls up the department over making the department a hib of nepotism, partiality and favouritism. Mehbooba's such scathing attack didn't only reflect the worrisome situation of state's education department but also proved Akhtar's tall claims drastically wrong and misguiding. As Akhtar has been crediting himself for introducing new transfer policy, sources in the education department divulge that the actual situation is more worrying than ever before. "Amid much fanfare, the new schemes in the education are being launched by the concerned ministry but the fact is no major relief is beinh accorded to the students who study at the government run schools. In fact, the transfer policy has become a virtual rehabilitation policy for the blue eyed. It accommodated kith and kin of babus with posting at the main cities- rest of the teachers were left in lurch," says an official. He added that when some meagre measures were taken to ensure that the proper student teacher ratio should be ensured in the government schools, there were bureaucrats who were running the show and accommodating their people at the prized locations. "It was a total mess witnessed and the so called transfer mela was done to hoodwink people. In real, the show was being controlled from the corridors of the civil secretariat," said another senior official. Furthermore, sources said that the chief minister has expressed serious concern over the shabby conditions of the state's education department and has resolved to keep a close vigil at its functioning. "It would not be wrong at all to say that it will be now the chief minister who will run the ministry. She has already warned the concerned officials that there should be no modification of the transfer orders issued by the department wherein the masters and lecturers are transferred out of cit. this reflects that she is not satisfied with Naeem Akhatr's style of working." |
