Early Times Report
Anantnag, Apr 25: Sensing trouble and embarrasment, a high level team of Health department officials skipped visit to Maternity and Child Care hospital which is in shambles state due to space crunch, poor sanitation and staff dearth. According to official communiqué, Dr. M. K. Bhandari, Secretary to Government, Health and Medical Education Department, Dr. Samir Mattoo, Director Health Services, Kashmir & Dr.Saleem-ur-Rehman, Project Director J&K AIDS Control Society visited District Hospital Anantnag and Sub-district Hospital Dooru late in the evening. Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Syed Abid accompanied the high level team during the visit, which they term a 'surprise visit' but ironically no resident in Anantnag was impressed with this visit as the team skipped to lone Maternity and Child Care hospital located in congested Sherbagh locality. Sources said that team tasked by Health Minister Bali Bhagat to visit the hospitals in Anantnag district, was scheduled to visit the Maternity hospital, however where immediately informed that they could face an embarrasing situation as patients as well as attendants continue to suffer because of the space crunch, poor sanitation and staff dearth. They said that some middle rung officials of the department conveyed the visiting team in advance the problems that people face at the hospital and forced the team to cancel the visit to hospital that functions from unsafe building. "Team was conveyed that they can't visit operative and post-operative wards as authorities have put double number of beds in wards and there is little space for attendants and nurses to roam around," an officer said. Doctors at Maternity and Child Care Hospital often accused government as well as department of neglecting the hospital on political grounds. MoS Health department, Aasiya Naqash too had to face an embarrasing situation when she visited the hospital earlier in 2015. At many stages, government had proposed to shift the hospital to some other place but political interference as always spoiled the scattered such moves. The hospital was shifted to old hospital building Jangalat mandi but a PDP leader helped blue-eyed chemists and druggists to bring back the hospital within 48 hours. |
