Pak FS ignores separatists, likely to meet Jaishankar today | 'Zor ka jhatka dheere-se' | | Early Times Report jammu, Apr 25: Separatists in Kashmir got a 'zor ka jhatka dheere-se' on Monday as the news about Pakistan Foreign Secretary, Aziz Ahmad Chaudhary, would visit New Delhi on Tuesday to attend 'Heart of Asia' regional conference broke. Chaudhary is likely to meet his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar on the sidelines of the conference on Tuesday to resume the talks process at Foreign Secretary level between both the countries. Pakistan keeping Chaudhary's Delhi visit as a closely guarded secret has left the separatists "red faced and annoyed" as this time around they have been sidelined by the country at whose behest they foment trouble in Kashmir, orchestrate stone pelting, and provoke youth to take up guns . Sources said, "Pakistan ignoring separatists has sent alarm bells ringing in the separatist camp who leave no stone unturned to claim that Pakistan and separatists are the two faces of the same coin." It's in place to mention here that in August 2014 India had called off the scheduled foreign secretary-level talks with Pakistan, objecting to its envoy meeting Kashmir separatists on the eve of the dialogue. Pakistan's engagement with Kashmir separatists has always caused heartburns in New Delhi, but before 2014 it had never led to the breakdown of dialogue. The GoI had told Pakistan that this sort of indulgence to separatists was unacceptable when Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif came for the inauguration of the Modi regime. Sharif had heeded the advice, and stayed away from the separatist camp when he came here on May 26, 2014 to attend the swearing in ceremony of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Pakistan High Commissioner based in New Delhi Abdul Basit, who keeps on inviting separatists and meets them on different occasions, had recently claimed that talks between India and Pakistan stand suspended and Kashmir is the core issue. He was eventually snubbed by India and Pakistan both. Sources said, "Chaudhary and Aziz are likely to meet on the sidelines of the conference and the scheduled meeting has been kept as a closely guarded secret so that no disruptions are caused." An official while talking to Early Times said, "India and Pakistan want to move ahead and Pakistan has been made to understand that it has to choose between separatists and India. It seems Pakistan has understood that if it fails to improve its relations with India it would end up in trouble." An analyst said, "If the India and Pakistan foreign secretaries meet in Delhi on Tuesday it would put Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit and Kashmiri separatists in a tight spot as both have been opposing the talks process between the two countries." |
