Mehbooba to hold direct hotline with BJP top brass | | | Hyder Ali
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 25: Prompted by past few months of "suspicion" within the Peoples Democratic Party ranks, the PDP has resolved to end the role of "middlemen" for negotiations with Bharatiya Janta Party in the national capital, while Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti will be holding direct talks with ally "as and when needed". Highly placed sources said in the wake of "bitter experience" of first innings followed by allegations of "coup" within the party ranks, the PDP leadership has resolved that Mehbooba should herself hold direct communications with the centrr. Sources said this was the reason as to why Mehbooba herself visited New Delhi since she was sworn in as the CM on April 4. Mehbooba, as per the sources, will remain in direct contact with the BJP top brass including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, party President Amit Shah and Ram Madhav. "This has been amicably decided with them (BJP)." In the first innings, sources said, deliberations with the central government were mostly managed by some PDP-leaders and advisors in the previous Mufti Muhammad Sayeed led government. But the experience wasn't good. Sources said Mehbooba was told by her loyalists that there was a "loophole in the party's relationship with New Deli as instead of the party head, others were often made to hold negotiations." "So in a bid to plug the breaches, and to strengthen ties with the central government, its ideal that she holds one on one talks with the leadership as and when needed," the insiders said adding "Mufti family and their well-wishers hold the same opinion." Ahead of Mehbooba's swearing in, some PDP leaders were holding talks with the central government in the national capital. But now there will a change in the "interest of the PDP." Sources said the PDP loyalists including Tariq Hameed Karra and Muzaffar Hussain Beg had been stressing upon the need to end the role of "middlemen who only created chaos in the alliance." Sources said in the previous innings there was so much of "indiscipline" over holding deliberations with New Delhi that almost every "tom, dick and harry from PDP had been trying to make friends with BJP leaders like Ram Madhav", who is BJP's point man on Kashmir. "But now she(Mehbooba) will personally hold the hotline so that the government remains more effective and there is no scope of any communication gap," the sources said. |
