Apathy of I&FC deptt hits Swachh Bharat Abhiyan | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 25: National campaign launched by the Government of India under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in October 2014 to clean streets, towns and cities with Irrigation and Flood Control Department having disposed off the silt and garbage dredged out of the Ranbir canal in Cremation ground located at Gazia of Krishna Nagar Miran Sahib reflecting the seriousness of the Department towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. While talking to Early Times the locals of the area informed that at the time of dredging the garbage from the canal, they asked those cleaning the canal to arrange appropriate disposal of garbage to avoid environment pollution but due to negligence of the Department, the garbage was rather dumped in the cremation ground at Gazia adjacent to Krishna Nagar, Maralia area of Miran Sahib. Expressing strong resentment against the department, Romesh Singh of Krishna Nagar said that cremation ground is a poius place for doing final disposal of dead body and a platform from where the soul of the deceased takes final flight upwards to the abode of God but the non-serious attitude of the Department to desecrate the cremation ground by dumping garbage there is bound to trigger trouble now smoldering in the minds of public in the area. While assailing the in-charge officer of the area assigned the duties for dredging work of the canal, Dhreej Singh Rampal of MaraliaKrishana Nagar said sarcastically that the Department may be levitating under the wrong impression that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan drive is meant for those who are alive and not for dead and those who visit cremation ground for ritual of their nearer and dearer, further said, urging the higher authorities to take cognizance of matter concerning the religious sentiments of the people and get the garbage removed from the cremation ground. |
