Finally, Div Com seeks relocation of Batamloo bus stand to Parimpora | ET Impact | | Early Times Report Srinagar, May 4: Prompted by series of reports by Early Times about government's reluctantance to relocatie Batamaloo bus stand to Parim Pora as the destination site has been converted into slum for "workers of a political party", the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Asgar Hassan Samoon has formally asked the concerned to get the slums demolished. Officials confirmed that Divisional Commissioner Dr Asgar Samoon on May 4 chaired a high level meeting to discuss the matter threadbare and asked District Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Lone to personally monitor demolition of the slum in a time-bound manner so that the Batamaloo bus stand can be relocated without any further delay. Sources privy to the meeting said the reports published by Early Times exposed the "dirty underbelly of the administration and that the meeting discussed that the same needs to be cleaned." In the wake of closure of the arterial Jahangir Chowk Ram Bagh road, the main link between the City center and the south is through the "Batamaloo corridor." The presence of the bus stand enroute, however, has emerged as a major cause of traffic crises as vehicular movement comes to grinding halt on the congested route. But following the expose, first reported by Early Times that Parimpora bus stand has been converted into slum to allegedly please a top PDP leader having vote bank stakes, the social media went up in arms against "injustice meted with the summer capital." Interestingly, Deputy chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and the SDA VC Pahalgam Thaseen Mustafa continue to be silent on the issue "lest the scam snowballs into a major controversy between the two coalition allies." However, following public response to ET reports that how come can government take entire Srinagar hostage to please one politician or his henchmen, Divisional Commissioner woke up to the issue. |
