Suspecting infiltration from across LoC army cordons Kupwara areas | | | S Tahir-ul Haq
Early Times Report KUPWARA, May 4: Army today launched a massive search operation in this border district after reports of infiltration of a group of militants from across the Line of Control (LoC). Sources said that forces have launched a cordon and search operation in Kralpora, Dardsun, Rishigund, Guzryal, Warsun, Chowkibal, Zonrishi and Budnumbal areas of the district. They said that the army vehicles were seen rushing towards the area to cordon off these villages, while as security forces were conducting identification parade of people as well. The operation, according to a top police official, was launched after the inputs of infiltration of a group of militants from LoC via Budnumbal area recently. However an official on anonymity said that the search operation will called be off tonight once the searches in the nearby woods of Zonirishi and Chowkibal areas are finished. The official said that since there are the dense forests militants can take shelter there. It is pertinent to mention here that a militant was killed in the exchange of fire during the intervening night of April 28 and 29 between the security forces and the militant in the area. The security forces had launched an operation following information about the presence of militants in Kanthpora village of Lolab area. Meanwhile sources said that Kupwara district has become a hotbed of militant activities from past several months. Dozens of foreign militants were killed at various places during exchange of fire between security forces and militants, said sources. Sources said that there was no report of any encounter between militants and security forces or any untoward incidents, till the last reports came in. |
