JKCA bickering kill cricketing talent in J&K | Ranji player's dream to play County crushed in Abdullah-Ansari tussle | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 4: The ongoing tussle between former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah and Sports Minister Imran Raza Ansari over legitimacy of who happens to be the "real" President of the "scammed" Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Board (JKCB) has cost a young Ranji trophy player his chance to play prestigious county in England. The JKCA has crushed the talented fast bowler, his opportunity to play abroad, by denying him the requisite No Objection Certificate (NOC) required for visa processing allegedly due to "internal politics within association." 25-year-old fast bowler, Mehjoor Sofi, who is a known name in cricket circles in the state and has played Ranji Trophy and T 20 matches, had approached the Ansari faction of the JKCA, which handles the affairs of the cricket in the state for the NOC to play abroad. However, Sofi said he was denied NOC and asked to get that from Dr Farooq Abdullah led faction. The cricketer said he tried to explain his position that he had nothing to do with politics but that he be granted the NOC. "No one listened to my genuine pleas," he complained. In his letter to Visa Section of the British High Commission in New Delhi, Chairman of the County Club, said it would be great to have Sofi on board for the County. JKCA is currently headed by state's Minister for Youth Services and Sports Imran Raza Ansari after his team replaced the Abdullah-led faction amid high drama last year. Sources said Imran Raza Ansari does not want to "patronize" players who were part of the JKCA when Dr Abdullah was the President. "Basically JKCA has turned into a full-fledged political platform where political affiliation rather than talent is being taken into consideration," said a JKCA insider. A delegation of Ranji players who have come in support of Sofi said there was no reason for the association to deny a NOC to a cricketer who has been offered to play league cricket in England. "This is all dirty politics. Otherwise there is no reason to deny a talented player his chance to play abroad," the players said. While JKCA gets crores of rupees annual funding, the association has been infamous for multi-crore scams, which mostly date back to the period when Dr Abdullah was the President. But last year Ansari too didn't miss chance to stake claim over the money-wise rich JKCA. Since the two factions have been fighting over the issue. Despite repeated attempts Dr Abdullah and Imran Raza Ansari were inaccessible for comments. |
